We’ve got big news at Bellflower. Through the winter, Chef Dan and his kitchen team will be preparing complete to-go meals that people can stop by, pick up, and take home… And we’re starting tomorrow!
This week, the Bellflower to-go meal is going to be smoked Cornish hen with jerk spice, rice & beans, fried ripe plantains, and Jamaican festival fritters. The dinners, which will sell for $25 each, will be available while supplies last, starting at 5:00 on Thursday.
If you’ve been reading about the food at Bellflower over the past few months, but haven’t felt as though the timing was right to come out and join us in person, now’s your chance to pick up a hot, delicious meal, and see what we’re all about.
If you’re interested, you can either come in and buy a meal at our front counter, or order one in our online shop. [Just look under “Specials” in the dropdown menu, and select “Cornish Hen Dinner.”] And, if you order online, be sure to indicate whether or not you’d like to schedule a time for contactless pickup. [All you have to do is set a time, and text us when you get here, and we’ll bring your hot, to-go meal out to you.]
THE MENU: Our Cornish hens are brined overnight in a mixture of salt, sugar, allspice, bay leaf, thyme, ginger, garlic, black pepper, lime, and both scotch bonnet & habanero peppers, then slow smoked over an applewood fire, mopped throughout with a mixture of soy sauce and lime juice infused with the same aromatics that were in the brine. Each Cornish hen will be served with “festival” cornmeal fritters, fried ripe plantains, and a 7” pie pan of rice & beans, inspired by a traditional Jamacian dirty rice dish called “rice & peas”. [The dish contains kidney beans, onions, garlic, allspice, thyme, coconut milk and chilis.]
If you drop by to pick up a meal, please be aware that they’ll take about 10 minutes to heat and package (depending on how busy we are). If you order online, your dinner will be hot and ready at the time you indicate when ordering.
